Stage-gate process
A stage-gate process that opens its own gates.
A gate opens when every owner has signed off. Launchglass asks each owner for their part as a product reaches the gate, chases it until it’s done, and shows exactly which sign-off is holding things up.
The problem
A gate is only as fast as its slowest sign-off.
Gate reviews run on reminders.
Somebody has to know who owes what, at every gate, for every product — and nudge them one at a time.
Every review applies different criteria.
The checklist depends on who runs the meeting, and nobody writes down why a project was let through.
Priorities go to the loudest voice.
What moves forward is decided in a meeting, and by next quarter nobody remembers why.
The solution
Define each gate once. Launchglass runs it on every product.
Gates you define
Each gate is a stage with its own fields & owners. Permissions control who can see and change each field.
Rules that fire on transitions
When a product reaches a gate, or a field becomes a certain value, Launchglass assigns the next round of sign-offs — with conditions that read the product’s own data.
Triggers on dates & schedules
“X days before” any date field, or every Tuesday at 9am. Gate prep starts before the review, not at it.
Prioritization, with the reasoning kept
The people doing the work vote on which projects move forward, and say why. The analytics show what the team decided & the reasoning behind it.
Live gate status
Every product shows which sign-offs are done, which are outstanding & who owns them. Nobody builds a status deck the night before the review.
Questions
Common questions.
What is stage-gate software?
Software that runs a product development process split into stages, with a decision gate between each. It holds each gate’s criteria & sign-offs and shows where every project stands. Launchglass also does the coordinating: it asks for every sign-off and chases it, autonomously.
Is stage-gate the same as phase-gate?
Same idea. Stage-Gate is a trademarked methodology; phase-gate is the general term. Launchglass works with either — and with whatever your stages are called.
Can gate criteria differ by product?
Yes. Rule conditions read each product’s own values, so a high-cost product can require approvals a routine one doesn’t.
Can we see how projects were prioritized?
Yes. Every vote records who cast it and, if the board asks for one, why. Vote analytics split votes by voter and by any category or person field over time, and open onto the comments behind each result.
